The house and its environment

The large semi-detached house (250 m2) has 4 bedrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, 3 offices, 1 bathroom, 1 shower room, 2 toilets, a spacious communal area (living room/dining room/co-working), and a laundry room with washing machine.

The garden covers 0,6 acres.

The house is situated on the ‘Plateau Avijl’ ( https://www.facebook.com/plateauavijl/), a remarkable green space, a stone’s throw from the centre of Brussels, known for its community atmosphere.

The project

To create a community of people bringing together scientific, artistic and ecological interests.

The concern for the environment lies at the heart of the project : the house is not linked to the main sewer so we don’t use toxic products; we eat healthily; we avoid plastic; we put jumpers on in winter, and so on…

The ambition is both artistic and scientific. The desire is to bring the house to life by opening it – and the community that lives there – to art in all its forms (particularly the dramatic arts) and more specifically, by organising productions and film shows that will be open to local people (and beyond): all this, with the added extra of making scientific knowledge accessible to a broad audience.

Who am I?

I am a 57 year old woman, with over 20 years’ experience in the field of criminology (protection of young people and social issues such as the polarisation of society and individuals). I’m very interested in cosmology. My three wonderful children are leaving the nest. I want to create a warm and creative atmosphere in what was our family home, which is in such a special location.

Who am I looking for ?

Scientists and/or artists/craftspeople working on ecological and/or social issues who are looking for a place to live that gives them a new start. This is not just a rental agreement between two parties, it is a commitment to a new direction in life.

Rental conditions ?

The rental contract to be agreed will include a 6 month trial period, with no penalties for leaving early should the arrangement not work out.

The rent will be around 500 euros per month, excluding service charges

Each tenant will have their own bedroom and office, along with access to the rest of the house (except for my bedroom and office J).
